Life-Death

When we open our summer exhibitions on May 21, you can once again experience Katharina Sieverding’s spectacular video work and total installation Life-Death. Just as the title connects life and death with a hyphen, the film celebrates oppositions and fluid transitions – between night and day, between genders, between life and death.

Coming exhibition

This summer’s exhibitions present two remarkable artistic practices, each exploring the human condition in their own way.

Benedikte Bjerre presents her largest solo exhibition to date in Denmark, where humor, symbolism and sculptural installations unfold a speculative universe centered on norms, power and community. At the same time, a major exhibition highlights the beloved ceramic artist Ursula Munch-Petersen, who throughout her life brought together art and design in works that revolve around care, values and the fundamental conditions of life.

In the art center’s basement you’ll find Lille Fugl – a cozy spot to enjoy coffee, natural wine, award-winning pastries and simple culinary small plates.
On the ground floor of Gammel Strand you’ll find our shop, where you can explore a handpicked selection of fiction, lithographs, posters, unique souvenirs and beautifully curated objects to take home.

Private guided tours

Gammel Strand offers guided tours for schools, businesses and private groups, where the art center’s educators provide background and perspective on the current exhibitions.
